Ionogram Scaling: Basic properties of a 1D vertical Ne profile

Description
This is a generic description of the computation that produces the 1D vertical profile of ionospheric electron density given a vertical-incidence ionogram. Several techniques have emerged to accomplish this computation. Most of the approaches use a iterative fitting algorithm to compare how a profile candidate matches the ionogram by comparing profile-restored and ionogram-observed traces of the signal reflection. The basic description of profile computation is free from specific detail of the techniques and details of their capability, but rather states the set of fundamental process capability to report observed properties of a generic 1D Ne(h) profile.
