Ionogram Scaling: AUTOSCALA reconstruction of the ordinary echo trace from the estimated electron density profile
Last modified at Feb 20th, 2023, 10:40 GMT
Description
AUTOSCALA tackles the problem of ionogram inversion using a technique by which the root mean square error (RMSE) between the trace restored from a candidate profile N(h) and the recorded one is minimized. Actually, the RMSE is calculated only on some characteristic points of the ionogram trace. However, AUTOSCALA repeats iteratively the calculation of the integral to obtain the virtual height at a particular frequency, from a candidate N(h). At the end of the iterative process, the entire ionogram trace is restored from the selected N(h) calculating the virtual height at a particular frequency all over the ionogram frequency range.
