EISCAT conducts ionospheric and atmospheric measurements with radars. In total EISCAT operates three high-power large aperture radar systems as well as a powerful ionospheric heater / HF radar and an ionosonde. The radars are located in the auroral zone on the northern mainland of Norway, Sweden and Finland, and in the magnetospheric cusp region on Svalbard.
